Susan Delaney

Susan Delaney became interested in glass work back in 1973. Her first projects began with stained glass windows, boxes, lampshades, sun catchers, decorative mirrors and night lights. After many years of mostly flatwork, Susan studied the fusing process and bought her first kiln. This opened up a new and exciting avenue for melting colors and designs and changing the form of her work. Over the years, she has explored and studied bead making, torch work, silver wrapping, silver clay, mold making, mosaics, casting and pate de verre. Susan is mostly self taught although did study lost-wax casting with the wonderful Evelyn Dunstan from Australia. Thanks to the books of Judith Conway and Kevin O'Toole, Susan learned to use powdered glass to create beautiful flower wafers which embellish many of her vessels and dishes. Her primary interest at this time is functional glassware, sculptural pieces, and casting.

Susan was born in California and has lived in numerous places throughout the United States. She presently lives in Maryland and is retired from Frederick County Public Schools after 31 years of teaching. Other than art, she enjoys reading, gardening, playing music and traveling to other countries.

Susan has a studio and gallery beside her home in Monrovia, Maryland. Her studio is open to the public by appointment. She has had numerous shows at her home and is happy to add you to her mailing list if you are interested. Contact her for further information or to arrange a visit.
